On March 16, Alexis Panetta celebrated her 40th birthday with her loved ones in Santa Marta; the joy and optimism were enormous, until the coronavirus appeared and ended everything, including his life.

A couple of weeks ago the nightmare began in the family of the young nurse who worked in a clinic in the city. Paradoxically, the first to become ill was her husband, Danny Cardona, who was infected with covid-19.

There was no time to react; in a matter of days the man fell into a delicate state and feared the worst.

Alexis, because of his experience and knowledge in the area of health, was aware that only a miracle could save him, so he went to his friends and through WhatsApp and Facebook groups requested a prayer chain for the father of his two children.

Solidarity did not wait, but while everyone waited for good news, the opposite happened.

Everything happened very quickly, first we found out that he had entered the ICU and days later we were informed of his death

The nurse, while clinging to God for the recovery of her husband, began to feel ill health.

“He told us through chats that he was short of breath and that he felt very bad, then we lost contact. We had hoped that it was not the coronavirus, but unfortunately the sample results indicated that Alexis had also ended up infectedSaid a close family friend.

For that reason, she had to be admitted to the emergency room, and without knowing that her husband’s life had come to an end, she began to fight her own battle against covid-19.

The nurse, who also worked in the departmental Ministry of Health, suffered from other crises such as obesity and hypothyroidism.

“Everything happened very quickly, first we found out that he had entered the ICU and days later we were informed of his death,” added the friend.

In Santa Marta there are already 10 deaths from Covid-19. Among that list, this woman and her husband appear as the youngest victims.

Not the most pessimistic would have imagined the fatal outcome that Alexis and Danny would have, just a month after celebrating life. His departure has caused deep pain and dismay among friends, family, and especially in her two children, 7 and 14 years old, who were left without a mother and father by a strange virus that suddenly appeared.

The two minors, who are in good health, have already undergone the tests and remain isolated.

The outlook in the capital of Magdalena is alarming, as the number of cases skyrocketed last week, while for the second time during the pandemic the Ministry of Health, the entity in charge of fighting the coronavirus, was left without an official.

German Arrieta, in less than a month of assuming as head of this agency, without further explanation presented his resignation. The Mayor’s Office has also not ruled on this matter or appointed any other official to replace him.
