According to the Institute of Public Health, four people have died in the Nordic country in the past two weeks after receiving the first dose of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine, all registered similar symptoms.
“The Medicines Agency should not exclude that these cases may have a connection with the drug [desarrollado por la compañía sueco-británica]”, He specified in a press release.
The entity also pointed out that two other patients are still admitted to the Oslo University Hospital (OAS) with similar symptoms. He also emphasized that the victims belonged to health personnel under 50 years of age.
Although he did not provide further details, The institute stressed that this symptomatology has not been seen in people who have received the other vaccines against COVID-19, like those of Pfizer and Moderna.
“We have made several findings that support our hypothesis that patients had a strong immune response that triggered the formation of antibodies, which could in turn activate platelets and cause thrombi,” said Pål André Holme, head of the medical team at the OAS, which investigates these cases in Norway.
The World Health Organization (WHO), meanwhile, stated that the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and that there is still no scientific evidence linking it to these types of adverse reactions.
