While the administration raised a reduced capacity for the return to schools, for the Ministry of Health the measure is not convenient. The mayor points out that it is the responsibility of the Ministry and the Secretary of Education.

A new controversy originated this Wednesday due to the conditions of the return to face-to-face and alternating classes in Bogotá. The origin was a trill from the Ministry of Health in which it is ensured that the national epidemiological committee did not approve the return to the institutions with a reduced capacity, as was presented yesterday afternoon by the mayor Claudia López, who assured that the institutions will be able to return with 35% of the occupation.

At the same time, the secretary of the committee, Julián Fernández Niño, said, who indicated that there are no capacity guidelines and “that to establish it you must resort to the pertinent authorities and support it scientifically.” Likewise, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, indicated that the biosecurity regulations adopted by the National Government establish that there should not be percentages of capacity in schools. “This will allow expanding the number of children who can access face-to-face education in alternation.”

In response, the president assured that she had been notified, but affirmed that “the safety guidelines of the education sector are not the function of the national epidemiological committee, that is the responsibility of the Ministry and the Secretary of Education. Since last year we have been operating with these guidelines and we will continue to operate with them ”.

The dates for the return to classes were announced on the afternoon of February 2 by Mayor Claudia López, after confirming that the city reduced the occupation of Intensive Care Units to 80.9%, which allowed lifting some measures such as quarantine by locality.

The president assured that public schools will be able to return to classes from February 8 as long as they comply with the guidelines and have the permits. In the case of public institutions, the return will be on February 15, while for universities it was announced that they will be able to return between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm or between 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm with a maximum capacity of 35%.
