This Tuesday, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, announced new measures to contain the contagion of covid-19 in the capital, which, according to the authorities, is at its second peak.

The first is that from 8 pm on Friday, January 15, and until 4 am on Monday, 18 there will be, again, a general quarantine throughout the city.

During those days, only essential establishments may be open and only those who are part of the exceptions may be mobilized.

The second, Lopez announced, is that this Monday, January 18, six other towns in the capital enter into strict quarantine. Is about Bosa, Ciudad Bolívar, Rafael Uribe Uribe, Puente Aranda, San Cristóbal and Usme, which will have the measure until Thursday, January 28 at midnight.

It should be remembered that for this week this quarantine model is maintained in Suba, Engativá and Usaquén, which end their shift on Monday 18 at 4:00 am, and that the same measure begins this Tuesday in Teusaquillo, Kennedy and Fontibón, where the This restriction will go until 11:59 pm on Thursday, January 21.

Bogotá emerged this Tuesday from a first strict quarantine, which was extended during the festive weekend of Reyes. However, the mayor recalled that the city enters a night curfew.

After four days in which the majority respected the total restriction on mobility, now the inhabitants of Bogotá, as announced last week, will have to accommodate a measure that will take effect tonight.

Citizens must take shelter every night, from 8 pm to 4 am, from this Tuesday, January 12 until next Sunday, January 17 as part of efforts to slow the spread of covid-19.

The mayor also asked the public to avoid any encounter between an extended family throughout the month of January, that is, with the one that does not live under the same roof, as there is a risk of transmitting the virus.

“Bogotá has identified about 6,000 outbreaks in the city and 5,000 of those outbreaks are in extended families”Lopez said.

The statements of the mayor of Bogotá were given after a follow-up meeting with the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, and the National Epidemiological Committee.

At that meeting, the Bogotá mayor’s office asked the Ministry of Health for two additional points to improve the care and service of the health system. On the one hand, to extend the COVID basket that is recognized by IPS during January and February. And on the other, speed up the payment to IPS of its invoices for November and December.

On the other hand, the Secretary of Health, Alejandro Gómez, reported this Tuesday that Bogotá will have a fifth field hospital at Hospital Santa Clara and that it is being determined whether it is possible to locate one more in the San Blas Hospital.
