What will be the measures for Bogotá | Announcements from Mayor Claudia López – Bogotá

The Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, confirmed that there will be a red alert in Bogotá and in its hospital system.

López assured that in this second peak there was a growth of 32%, unlike the first peak, where the increase in cases reached 27%. Something that “was not normal”.

“This is being reflected in the demand for beds in intensive cases. The demand for covid-19 beds has skyrocketed,” said the mayor, Claudia López.

He assured that the increase in infections could be due to the possible presence of the new variant of covid-19, the one that originated in the United Kingdom and which has been known for its higher viral load.

“The December load should already be dropping. But no … there is an additional factor: the new strain of covid-19 must already be circulating in Bogotá,” López added and maintained that the most affected locality is Usaquén: “This is the town where the most passengers from foreign flights arrive. Which gives us more clues.”

Other locations with worrying indicators are Suba, Teusaquillo, Fontibón and Kennedy.

“Kennedy does not have a peak as severe as the first, but it is close. Fontibón is already in the second peak. And Teusaquillo and Usaquén have a harder peak than the first,” López explained and noted: “This second peak is showing a behavior more drastic than we had estimated from the purchases and encounters in December and a higher viral load is being recorded in positive patients. This higher viral load makes the patient sicker and makes him more transmissible“.

The mayor confirmed that investigations are underway to identify and confirm the strains.
