Bogotá Medical College announces health emergency and calls for red alert in the city – Bogotá

As explained from the Bogotá Medical College (CMB), of 60 health institutions enabled with ICU beds in the city, 23 already have 100 percent occupancy, and the remaining is between 70 and 100 percent.

“The official figures from the District Health Secretariat (SDS) do not correspond to the reality in hospitals and clinics,” they warned in a harsh statement in which they also expressed that there are difficulties in obtaining medications for care in ICUs.

“On the other hand, the lack of opportunity and diligence for the allocation of available ICU beds by Crue is evident, as well as the transfer of responsibility of the EPS and the medicalized transport companies contracted for this purpose, which translates into a greater risk of mortality and sequelae in patients, “they noted.

They explained that the latest measures, such as the closure of Suba, Engativá and Usaquén, is not enough if the population is not educated and “their social conditions are not addressed, which lead them not to follow the public health recommendations.” This warning draws attention, taking into account that the Bogotá Medical College participated in the meeting in which the decision to quarantine in these localities was made.

Luis Ernesto Gómez, mayor (e) of Bogotá, said this Monday morning that “listening to medical associations yesterday we took different hospital and care measures. However, the board of directors of the CMB, a member of the Colombian Medical Federation, considers that the city may enter a more critical situation, so they ask for more severe actions.

“Hospital red alert and health emergency must be declared in Bogotá, reduce the speed of transmission of contagion and protect the health infrastructure in the city and the health workers in the first line of care for covid-19,” they concluded .

This Monday, January 4, at two in the afternoon, there will be a meeting between the District Administration and the National Government, in which the measures taken will be analyzed and other more drastic actions will be considered.
