On the night of this Wednesday, December 30, an unfortunate event occurred in Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras. Esdras Laínez, a former soldier who went viral in May after uploading a video to his TikTok account and being removed from the military for that reason, died after being run over.

The driver of the car was released on the morning of this Thursday, because, according to the first investigations, had no specific responsibility in the traffic accident that ended Laínez’s life, who was barely 20 years old.

‘The military dancer’

Many remember that, at the beginning of May, during the time of the first great restrictions due to the arrival and massification of the coronavirus in Latin America, a video of a military man dancing went viral on the TikTok platform.

The video, curious in itself – Laínez appears sitting in a chair with a gun and, when the music starts to play, he stands up and starts dancing – became popular when he learned the background of the story: he was removed from the institution after publishing the footage.

At first, it was thought that the sanction had been specifically for the dance, however, Yuri Chávez, a spokesman for the Honduran Armed Forces, explained to ‘CNN’ at the time that Laínez was removed for ‘abandoning his post’ and leaving the rifle in the saddle (as it happens in the video), prohibited action for the soldiers.

It was also known, even from Laínez’s testimony, that the military at that time had been confined for more than 3 months. The same ex-soldier, already out of his service, confirmed that made the video with the sole intention of having fun in the middle of the confinement.

Laínez’s story was spread in such a way on social networks that even Don Chezina, author of ‘Tra tra tra’, the song that the ex-military man danced in the TikTok clip, shared the story and wanted him to get his job back.

Death

As recorded by ‘El Heraldo’, from Honduras, Laínez was hit by a vehicle in the Miramontes neighborhood, in the capital of that country.

The young man’s mother denounced that, hours before death, Laínez had been taken to a clinic for an accident. The former military man, apparently, escaped from the health center and jumped onto the road to be attacked.

The incident was recorded on cameras. Thanks to the images they found the driver of the vehicle, who was released on Thursday morning after verifying that he had no direct impact on the death of ‘The military dancer’.

The artist Don Chezina also mourned the death of the ex-soldier. “I can’t believe it, this 2020 continues to surprise me: my Godmother Gollin leaves, Tito Rojas says goodbye and now Esdras. I ask for strength for our families and loved ones,” the artist wrote along with an image on his Instagram account.

This end of the year the body of Esdras Laínez is veiled in the residence of his grandmother, located in Santa Cruz de Soroguara.

‘El Heraldo’ says that the burial will take place this Friday, January 1.
