Despite the fact that the curfew in Cali began at 9:00 pm this Sunday, until almost 11:00 pm, concentrations of America fans were registered in the streets of the city to celebrate the triumph of the scarlet box in the tournament of Colombian soccer.

The measure, decreed by the Mayor’s Office, applies until 5:00 am this Monday, as does the dry law. However, for several hours in Cali there were caravans, gunpowder burning and numerous agglomerations in which measures such as physical distancing and the proper use of masks were not complied with.

In points such as the South Highway, Pasoancho Avenue, 5 Street, Sexta Avenue, Valle del Lili and some neighborhoods in the east, the restriction on the movement of people was violated.

Around 10:00 pm, the caravans were dispersed by mobility and security authorities, although the crowds lasted until the early hours of the morning.

In the Mariano Ramos neighborhood, east of the city, members of Esmad went to a park in the area where several people refused to abide by the curfew.

Carlos Alberto Rojas, Secretary of Security and Justice, gave a preliminary balance of the controls advanced in the day and assured that around 11:00 pm they managed to control the situation in various sectors.

“There were more or less an hour and a half of caravans and euphoria, but in the north we already have total control. We are going to continue with the operations throughout the city,” he said.

The official also pointed out that his agency had no report of violent deaths in the city during the festivities and said that the traffic accidents registered have not been serious.

Around 12 p.m. this Sunday, Secretary Rojas took stock of the day, in which he highlighted that the control operations after the América match were deployed throughout the city.

“We had to close some establishments that did not comply with the curfew and prohibition measures. On Avenida Sexta and Autopista Sur we had very large operations, fortunately the situation was controlled without major alterations,” he said.

It should be remembered that the health authorities have insisted to football fans on the importance of maintaining the measures provided for by the covid-19 pandemic.

Miyerlandi Torres, Cali Health Secretary, asked the scarlet fans to live the game with measure, celebrate responsibly and at home, given the difficult situation that the city’s health system is experiencing.

“The situation in the city of Cali with the Intensive Care Units, ICU, and hospital services is critical at this time. The availability of beds is very low and we need, please, to slow down the transmission of the virus,” Torres said, recalling that to avoid an increase in contagions, the crowds must be reduced.

“I call on you to live the game with your closest ones and at home. Please be responsible, avoid crowds and caravans because they not only expose your lives, but also expose close people, family, friends and neighbors, “he said.

In the latest report from the Ministry of Health, Valle del Cauca reported 24 more deaths from covid-19, of which 14 were registered in Cali. The other cases correspond to the municipalities of Tuluá (3), Cartago, Pradera, El Cerrito, Yumbo, Palmira, Guacarí and Seville.

In addition, 755 new positives for coronavirus were identified, raising the total number of infections to 133,536 since the beginning of the emergency in the region.
