New commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, General Juan Carlos Rodríguez

The Metropolitan Police of Cali will change its commander, according to the new Director General of the National Police, Major General Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia, reported from Bogotá.

This Saturday the new line of command that the institution will have was announced, after the departure of General Óscar Atehortúa and the appointment, in his replacement, of General Vargas Valencia in recent days.

The current head of the Police in Cali, Brigadier General Manuel Antonio Vásquez Prada, will now be in charge of the Health Directorate of the institution, in Bogotá.

It should be remembered that Vásquez Prada arrived in Cali in January of this year, from the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police, replacing General Hugo Casas, who announced his retirement at the end of 2019.

The new commander of the Cali Police will be Brigadier General Juan Carlos Rodríguez Acosta, who had been serving as head of the Police Counterintelligence area.

Rodríguez Acosta, born in Bogotá, has worked in various units within the institution, such as the Norte de Santander Police Department, the Carabineros school, the ‘General Santander’ Cadet School, the Anti-narcotics Directorate, the Tax and Customs Police , the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá and the Directorate of Police Intelligence, Dipol, commanding the sections in Bogotá, Valle, Cali, Medellín and Regional 6.

Likewise, he was commander of the Nariño Police Department, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá and director of Incorporations. He received his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General a year ago, on December 23, 2019.

“His training as a riding teacher in Chile stands out, belonging to the specialty of the Colombian police. In addition, he holds the title as a professional and technologist in Criminalistics and Business Administration and is a specialist in Conflict Resolution and Security”, they highlighted from the institution at the time he was promoted.

He has been in the Police for more than 30 years and, as of last year, had received 67 decorations and 136 congratulations.

This Sunday, the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, welcomed General Rodríguez and thanked the “hard work, commitment and courage” of the outgoing commander, General Vásquez.

New line of command

Major General, MG, Hoover Alfredo Penilla, a native of Cartago and who was commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police between 2013 and 2015, will be the new deputy director of the National Police.

In the General Inspection will be MG Jorge Luis Ramírez; in the direction of Citizen Security, MG Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez; in the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, MG Herman Alejandro Bustamante; in the direction of Human Talent, MG Ramiro Castrillón; in the direction of Antisecuestro, MG Fabián Laurence Cárdenas; in the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol, MG Fernando Murillo Orrego; and in the direction of Health, the outgoing commander of the Cali Police, BG Manuel Antonio Vásquez.

On the other hand, MG Mariano Botero Coy will be the new director of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute, Inpec.

Likewise, MG Cein Castro Gutiérrez will be in command of the Telematics office; Brigadier General, BG, Henry Armando Sanabria Cely, from the Administrative and Financial Directorate; BG Jesús Alejandro Barrera Peña, from the Carabineros and Rural Security Directorate and BG Norberto Mujica Jaime, from the Police Intelligence Directorate

BG Silverio Ernesto Suárez will be the new director of Social Welfare, while BG Pablo Antonio Criollo will be in charge of the General Secretariat. BG Luis Ernesto García will be in charge of the Planning office, while BG Gustavo Franco Gómez will be the new director of the Tax and Customs Police.

Regarding the regions, Brigadier General, BG, Juliette Giomar Kure will be the new person in charge of Region 1; BG Ramiro Alberto Riveros Arévalo will command region 2; MG Luis Enrique Méndez will be at the head of region 4; BG Freddy Alberto Tibaduiza Niño will lead Region 5; BG Eliécer Camacho Jiménez will occupy the command of region 6; BG Juan Carlos León Montes will take over as commander of region 7 and MG Julio César González, of region 8.

While in the Metropolitan Police, in addition to the aforementioned change in Cali, there will also be relays in Bucaramanga, where BG Javier José Martín Gámez arrives; in Cúcuta, where BG Óscar Antonio Moreno Miranda will assume; in Cartagena, which will be under the command of BG Luis Carlos Hernández Aldana; and in the Aburrá Valley (Antioquia), where BG Pablo Ferney Ruiz Garzón was assigned.

Finally, the National Directorate of Schools will be under the command of BG Yackeline Navarro Ordóñez; the General Santander cadet school will be directed by Colonel Carlos Fernando Triana and the Incorporation Directorate, by Colonel Nicolás Alejandro Zapata Restrepo.
