The National Institute of Health (INS) delivered the first balance of people who were injured by gunpowder on Christmas night and until noon on December 25.
The preliminary result of this epidemiological surveillance indicates that there are 38 injured by the handling, observation, transport, storage and production of these explosives. Of those, there are seven minors.
According to the INS, 23 of the injuries that have been reported so far were registered on the night of the 24th and the other 15 in the early morning and morning of the 25th.
17 of the injured adults were under the influence of alcohol and one of the minors who was injured was in the company of an angry adult.
84.2 percent of the victims at the Christmas celebration were handling these explosives and 10.5 percent were spectators.
86.8% of those who arrived injured at healthcare centers had burns, 68.4% lacerations, 42.1% contusions and 28.9% amputations. Totes were the main cause of the reported injuries, in 39.5 percent of the cases.
With seven cases so far, Tolima is the territorial entity with the most injuries so far. Nariño reported four injured, Cesar, Magdalena and Valle reported three, while Antioquia, Bogotá, Boyacá, Caldas and Santander reported two victims.
It is worth remembering that this date, along with the night of the candles, the New Year and the bridge of kings, historically are the ones that are most injured by this scourge.
According to the INS, in 2017 there were 186 injured by gunpowder between December 24 and 25, in 2018 there were 164 and in 2019 there were 181 burned. Of these, there were 86, 90 and 67 minors injured, respectively.
