It is a vehicle that came from the port of Santa Marta, which would explain the presence of the reptile. This also indicates that the specimen has been out of its natural habitat for a few days, which will make it easier for it to return to freedom.

Reptiles by accident in Bogotá
A similar event was reported in October this year, when a boa constrictor descended from a moving truck in the middle of Carrera 30 avenue, in Bogotá. The episode went viral on social networks because a group of motorcyclists were in charge of recording it on camera, in addition to telling the driver what was happening so that he would stop and not hurt her.
The environmental authorities were in charge of addressing this case and concluded that it had arrived in the capital accidentally because the vehicle had been in Melgar for a few days.

Following this case, The District Secretary for the Environment decided to make some recommendations to citizens in case this happens to them, as it tends to be more common than it seems.
First of all, it is important to understand why wild animals like boas make it to cars. One of the explanations is that they do it to shelter from the sun or places with high temperatures at night or at dawn when it is cold. In addition, as explained at the time by the undersecretary of the district entity, cars help them to conserve body heat.
In this sense, one of the most important recommendations is to do a thorough inspection of the car before returning to the capital. Also, it is essential to remain calm and not hurt the specimen. Some of the species that usually arrive in the city after this type of trip are tarantulas, lizards, iguanas, scorpions, snakes or frogs.
But how to act in these cases? The first thing the entity suggests is to avoid touching or manipulating them because it is not known how the specimen will react. Nor is it necessary to hurt them as they are normally harmless unless attacked. In addition, it is important to remember that these animals are also equal or worse scared than the people who find it because it is in an unknown place.

That is why it is key to communicate as soon as possible with the environmental authorities to help you know how to proceed. If you are in Bogotá, the line for this type of situation is 123. The professionals will help you know how to act by phone while you arrive at the place.
One last recommendation is to avoid keeping these animals as pets at all costs. Each species plays a fundamental role in the ecosystem where it lives and removing it from there would cause an imbalance and serious consequences.
