Given that almost all the medical centers in Cali have a 90% occupancy of ICU beds, the Municipal Administration declared the red alert and prepares new restrictions.
According to what Miyerlandi Torres, Secretary of Health, expressed on Facebook Live of El País, the red alert is relevant to the moment of the pandemic that is registered in the capital of the Valley.
“We currently have 330 people in the ICU, which represents 90% occupancy. We are 80 people away from having the same record we had between the last week of July and the first of August, when the first peak of the pandemic occurred.” he commented.
For Torres, it is pertinent to declare the red alert in the city’s hospital system, since this time, unlike the first wave of infections, there is the issue of surgeries that were postponed in the first stage of the pandemic.

Cali prepares measures
To stop the advance of the new coronavirus pandemic in Cali, the Mayor’s Office is preparing a series of restrictive measures such as the extension of the curfew and the dry law; like the peak and cedula.
On this, the Secretary of Health pointed out that there are two types of measures that are being taken, some are implemented for health centers and EPS and others that are of a social nature.
“In the company of the Personería de Cali we made a call to the EPS, so that those who are not complying with the taking of samples and the follow-up of patients, resume these activities, so the cases that can be attended at home are not aggravated and they have to be referred to an ICU, “he said.
Regarding the measures of social order, the official said that she still cannot confirm anything, but until now they have established that the curfew and the prohibition law be extended. In addition to retaking the peak and ID, and the digital health passport.
“The curfew and the dry law, until now, go from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am the next day. Regarding the peak and card, we can say that it would be even and odd and applies to enter specific sectors , such as banks, commercial establishments and shopping centers. We are going to resume the digital health passport, “he said.
And he added: “the restaurants and bars will be able to operate until 11:00 pm since the workers will be allowed to circulate with a labor letter, as will the clients, who showing the reservation will be able to return home after 11: 00 at night, “he said.
In addition, Miyerlandi Torres announced that for December 20 and 27, days in which the Colombian soccer finals will be played between América de Cali and Santa de Fe, the restrictive measures will be reinforced.
Torres also referred to the circular issued by the Ministry of the Interior, in which, among other things, it says that municipalities where the occupancy of UCI beds is higher than 70% may only sell liquor until 10:00 a.m. night.
“We will have to wait for the official decree, but surely we will have to accept what was said in that circular. We know that these measures are uncomfortable, but we need the commitment of everyone to be able to stop the advance of the pandemic,” he said.
Finally, the head of the Health office called on the entire community to respect the measures to be adopted, since this is the only way to stop the spread of infections.
“We ask the entire community to adopt these measures. We do not want to have to live on the 24th and 31st with stronger measures. It depends on all of us that we can stop the advance of the pandemic and prevent more deaths,” he concluded.
It should be remembered that according to the latest report from the Departmental Health Secretariat, in the capital of the Valley there have been 85,011 cases of covid-19 since the arrival of the virus in the region.
