The communicator made a live report from the trunk that connects Soacha with Bogotá and showed that the buses are at 100% capacity, without protocols and much less respecting the distancing required by health authorities to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
“People do not even fit inside the bus, there are many people at the stations also waiting and the bus does not maintain social distancing”, describes the journalist from Noticias Caracol.
Tatiana also emphasized that, as has been evidenced in recent days, in the trade of Bogotá, distancing or protocols are not respected, specifically in sectors such as San Victorino. This, he says, also occurs in the massive Transmilenio system.
Despite the fact that the Mayor’s Office insists that everything is controlled in commerce and in the operation of the transport system, users think otherwise and complain because this situation has been happening for months, in the middle of the pandemic.
“For more or less three months the situation has been the same, nothing has improved”, denounced one of the Transmilenio users in Noticias Caracol.
Those who mobilize in the massive system also consider that, since the capacity is at 100%, measures such as the use of a mask are not enough. In addition, they question that care is impossible if social distancing is not met.
As if that weren’t enough, users also complain about the shortage of buses and, they say, they have to leave, literally, to avoid being late for their jobs and destinations.
Faced with complaints, Tatiana Gordillo tried to make her report in other parts of the bus, but it was not possible because of how full it was.
“Here we can hardly move much to show you, but the entire bus is in the same way, zero social distancing and the rest of the buses are the same,” said the journalist.
This is the video (minute -1: 59: 00) with the report:
Situation of Transmilenio during the pandemic
At the beginning of the pandemic, the massive system of the Bogota citizens operated with less than 50% of its capacity and the situation was controlled by the District authorities. However, everything got worse when the buses returned to operating 100%.
This is evidenced in reports like that of Noticias Caracol. Despite this, the system in recent weeks has focused on route changes, but not on controlling capacity, especially during peak hours.
Added to this is that insecurity in the system has increased this year. However, the Bogotá Mayor’s Office maintains that crimes have been reduced and user perception has improved, says Canal Capital.
