This Tuesday the Supreme Court of Justice issued an arrest warrant against the senator of the U Party, Eduardo Pulgar, for allegedly commission of the crime of influence peddling. The congressman was arrested this morning by a group of CTI agents attached to the high court, who approached him at El Dorado Airport, from Bogota.

Hours later, his lawyer, Jaime Granados, reported that they were abiding by the decision of the Investigation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.

“Just as he has been at the forefront of the process and has appeared when summoned, had he been notified of the imposition of an assurance measure, he would have voluntarily assisted in complying with it without the need for an arrest”, he pointed

However, Pulgar’s defense said that the high court’s decision “was not a unanimous decision but a divided one.”

One of the magistrates validly excused himself from voting and another saved his vote with some forceful and invaluable considerations that point out the errors of the Chamber in ordering to deprive Senator Pulgar Daza of his liberty.

Likewise, the attorney for the person under investigation disagreed with the decision of the Examining Room. “We will not present an appeal for reconsideration, which is the only one that proceeds. This, taking into account that the Court itself would resolve it, so we consider that it is not an effective resource to defend the guarantees of our client “, they indicated.

In the statement, attorney Jaime Granados indicated that he will request that the Special Trial Chamber carry out a “Legality check” of the arrest of his client “because we consider that the measure imposed on him is illegal because it does not comply with the requirements of the legal system.”

He also asked that Pulgar’s delicate state of health be assessed, “That makes him prone to multiple and serious diseases and allows him to undergo the insurance measure in a place that does not endanger his life”.

Finally, the defense of the detained parliamentarian pointed out: “Although we cannot refer to any details of the facts or the file, we will continue to defend the Pulgar guarantees and we trust that soon and definitively he will regain his freedom and his innocence will be proven”.

Investigation for alleged bribery of a judge

In July of this year, journalist Daniel Coronell revealed that one day in 2017 at that time Eduardo Pulgar, in his first term as senator, invited the then municipal judge of Usiacurí, in the department of Atlántico, Andrés Rodríguez Cáez to his home.

The meeting took place under certain suspicions on the part of the judge who decided to record the meeting. Coronell in that first column revealed part of the audio in which Senator Pulgar is heard making a proposal:

Fuck it, I want to appeal to you to see how you can help me, because this is a business. This is a business. I tell you the truth … This is a business. This has to stay between the three of us because the guys are worried. What’s more, the guys tell me: if you have to go there, I’ll go, but ideally, they won’t say anything.

In addition, Pulgar boasts of having a good relationship with officials of the National Government and assures that he needs help for a “play” that involves a close one with the Metropolitan University of Barranquilla.

In the audios revealed by Coronell you can also hear the moment in which the parliamentarian suggests the amount that the judge should charge to benefit Pulgar’s friend, Luis Fernando Acosta and thus remain in control of that educational institution.

“If the guys are wise. If I say hey doc, this pod is worth 200 bars. He tells me: what time and where? So, to speak clearly. I tell you the truth. Here’s a business … I think … I don’t know, if you want to talk alone “Senator Eduardo Pulgar would have said.
