9 deaths from Covid-19 in Quindío

The occupancy of the Intensive Care Units remains above 80%.

This December 20, 2020, the departmental health secretariat reports 259 new cases of people infected with Sars-Cov-2, the virus responsible for the disease known as Covid-19.

9 months and 2 days after the first case was reported in Quindian lands, the pandemic continues to leave its trail of death: this time there were 9 people, 5 in Armenia -2 women, 64 and 78 years old, and 3 men, from 53, 85 and 94 years old- and 4 in Calarcá -2 women, 80 and 83 years old, and 2 men, 67 and 76 years old-.

Of the 12 municipalities, 9 remain highly affected and only 3, Genova, Buenavista and Pijao, moderate.

Armenia contributed the highest number of infections of the day with 193 cases, followed by Calarcá with 26, Montenegro with 10, La Tebaida also with 10, Quimbaya with 7, Circasia with 5, Filandia with 3, Pijao 2, Buenavista 2 and Genoa 1 ; for a total of 259 cases.

To date, the total number of infected people in Quindío amounts to 22,143, of which 18,127 have recovered, 3,437 are active and 579 have died.

Expanded Security Council this Monday

This weekend a report from the health authorities was released that reported the constant and worrying progress in the number of infections and the mortality that this generated in Quindío, “7 deaths on average per day”, in addition to the high occupation Intensive Care Units, ICU, which continues to determine the hospital alert.

To deal with the situation and particularly during the approaching Christmas and end of the year dates, the departmental government called a meeting of the expanded security council for this Monday afternoon.

“Likewise, it was agreed to support the measures implied by the red alert, in the sense of keeping the surgical processes that involve ICU occupation suspended, insisting with the community and mayors to verify compliance with biosafety regulations and the strict application of health regulations ”.

In the same way, it was determined to fully restrict massive events, request contingency plans from the IPS to manage the situation and strengthen the recruitment processes, as well as implement plans from the municipalities with the highest impact and evaluate again as a possibility the peak and identity card for mobility in Quindío.

Contagions in the country

For its part, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported 11,160 new cases. 43,635 tests were processed -PCR: 31,183 and antigens: 12,452-. Likewise, 207 people corresponding to this Sunday and 186 of previous days were reported as deceased. In the country there are 89,330 active cases of Covid-19.
