Xiaomi plans to produce masks that are disinfected with ultraviolet light when they are recharged. The initiative can help reduce the rate of infection with the new coronavirus.
Called “Porject Aeri”, the mask has a filter type N95, recommended by the World Health Organization and more efficient in stopping the spread of covid-19. The company’s idea is that the product does not interfere with facial recognition to unlock the screen on smartphones.
According to the XDA Developers website, the project is being developed by Huami, the subsidiary of the company that makes smart watches.
According to Xiaomi’s press office in the country, the product is not yet forecast to be sold in Brazil, but confirmed that the product will be sold in the company’s global store.
According to the website, the mask is transparent, made of light and flexible materials, allowing it to fit well on the face, preventing the entry of contaminated particles. To prevent the mask from fogging, it will have a kind of fan that will expel the user’s breath.

This ventilation system is used in another Xiaomi mask, called Mi Airpop, and was created for the Indian market to protect against contamination.
In February, the Chinese company obtained a patent in the United States for another smart mask, capable of capturing data about a person’s breathing.
According to Gizmochina, the description of the patent reveals that the next Xiaomi mask will come equipped with a computer unit. The processor will calculate all the data collected by the sensors in the mask, such as accelerometers and gyros.
The data will be stored in the mask and can also be transferred to other devices. An internal battery would power the air filter. Finally, the sensors will help the mask determine if the wearer is moving or in a stationary position.
This mask is not yet in production, and patent registration does not necessarily mean that it will ever be manufactured. But it is still an interesting project that would be necessary in the current pandemic situation.
