President Jair Bolsonaro (without party) said on a visit to Caucaia (CE), this Friday (26), that, from now on, it is the governor who closes his state who must pay emergency aid.

“A pandemic will catch us much more we will overcome this evil, it can be certain. Agora, or that or maybe more can, and we have seen in special not Ceará, it is to work. This political has done ‘fica at home, to save people We cannot dissociate the problem from the virus and the unemployment. There are two problems that we must deal with simultaneously and with the same responsibility. More a few months and, daqui for the front, or governor to date his state, or governor who destroyed the undertaking, he must bank or emergency aid. I cannot continue to play politics and play for the President of the Republic that is responsible “, disse President.

The declaration comes at a time when governors and mayors are taking stricter measures to contain the advance of Covid-19 in various parts of the country. This Thursday (25) Brazil registered a record of deaths registered in a single day: 1,582. Several states suffer from the lack of ICU beds to care for the sick.

“Those who close everything and destroy jobs are against what their people want. Do not criticize me, go to town even after the elections,” said the president.

The visit to Ceará also takes place amid an increase in coronavirus cases in the state and, for this reason, was criticized by Governor Camilo Santana (PT), who reported that he would not participate in the event. The Federal Public Ministry pointed out the risk of agglomeration. This Friday (26), Santana announced the extension of the curfew time throughout the state.

In both moments of the visit, there was an agglomeration of supporters and people without masks. Bolsonaro spoke to a crowd in Tianguá’s main square. Fences surrounding the place were removed just before the ceremony, and the public ran to the tent where the service order for the urban crossing work, on BR-222, of the municipality was signed.

No governor present

On Thursday (25), the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana, announced on social networks that he would not be present at the event and, during the visit, he said “I do not agree with what he considers a serious mistake.”

The Federal Public Ministry in Ceará recommended to the National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (Dnit) and the Fortaleza, Horizonte and Tianguá prefectures to avoid crowds on the president’s visit. “Statewide pandemic figures inspire increased attention, while social isolation remains as a more efficient and indispensable public policy to combat the spread of the virus, ”said the MPF.

This was Bolsonaro’s second visit to Ceará as president. In September 2020, already during the pandemic, the president participated in an act without a mask and in the middle of a crowd. During the recent presidential visits, such as the one he made in Acre on Wednesday (24), there were also crowds: in Sena Madureira, the presidential party was driving an open car and the population was following the road.

‘There are 2 powers in Brazil’, says president

In the speech, the president praised the parliamentarians and the closeness between the Executive and the Legislative.

“When I refer to you, I say that we are not three powers in Brazil, we are two powers, the Executive and the Legislature work together, one does nothing without the other.”

Without directly quoting Governor Camilo Santana, Bolsonaro said: “To politicians who criticize me, I suggest they do what I do.”

Also participating in the event were the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas and the general director of DNIT, Antônio Leite dos Santos Filho, as well as mayors and regional leaders.

During the event attended by Bolsonaro, the service orders for the following works were signed:

  • Continuity of the BR-116 viaduct in the city of Horizonte, which was stopped for 16 years. Value: R $ 5.2 million
  • Two BR-222 curve correction works in the city of Umirim, work stopped for 5 years. Value: R $ 16.7 million
