Rumors are increasing that Toto Wolff could leave Mercedes at the end of 2020. And a possible deviation from one of those responsible for the success of the team, who won the seventh consecutive title in the Constructors’ World Cup today, may make another pillar of the team German Lewis Hamilton decides to leave the team.
Asked about his stay with Wolff leaving the team after his victory at the Emilia-Romagna GP, the driver, who has a contract only until the end of 2020, did not guarantee his stay in F1 next season.
– I don’t even know if I’ll be here next year, so I’m not worried at the moment. It’s November and it’s crazy that Christmas isn’t that far off. Naturally I feel very good, I feel very strong and I feel like I could continue for many months. Then I do not know. You mentioned about Toto and life expectancy, there are several things that stick in my head. I’d like to be here next year, but there’s no guarantee of that for sure. There is a lot that excites me about “life after death” (after retiring from F1). Then time will tell – says Hamilton.

Despite the prospect of losing the leader and friend, Hamilton said he understood Wolff’s motivation behind his desire to get off the slopes to spend more time with his family.
– I understand and we have a lot of deep conversations, Toto and I, so I’m very, very aware of where he is mentally and we share and carry a lot of weight together. I’ve been here a long, long time. I can definitely understand the desire to step back and give the family more time and stuff.
In a tumultuous race at Imola, Lewis Hamilton won his 93rd Formula 1 victory at the Emilia-Romagna GP on Sunday. The Englishman also helped Mercedes secure an unprecedented seven-consecutive constructors’ championship. Valtteri Bottas, who had started from pole and led the opening laps, finished second despite problems on the car floor, and Daniel Ricciardo completed the podium in third place with Renault.
With the result, Hamilton can already be seven times world champion in the next race in Turkey. The Englishman has an 85-point lead over Bottas with 104 up for grabs, and to win the title he needs a win or second-place with fastest lap.
