With 564 deaths from covid-19 registered in the last 24 hours, Brazil had another day of decline in the moving average of deaths this Wednesday (11): -27% compared to 14 days ago. The states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have once again released the number of deaths, while Minas Gerais remains without communicating the data.
Since last week, the country has had problems with the disclosure of covid-19 data due to errors in the e-SUS platform. The reports began after the Health Ministry system was allegedly hacked.
In total, the country has already registered 163,406 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The survey was carried out by the consortium of press vehicles of which the Twitter It is part of.
Across the country, 47,724 new cases of the disease were registered from yesterday to today. The total number of positive tests for the disease reached 5,749,007 since the start of the pandemic. There were an average of 319 deaths in the last seven days.
Health data
The Ministry of Health announced today that Brazil had 544 new deaths caused by covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The agency, however, made a reservation: “The cases and deaths in today’s publication may not reflect the accumulation of pending events since the closure of the official information systems on the 5th.”
Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of deaths caused by the disease has reached 163,373. From yesterday to today, according to the folder, there were 48,331 new cases of covid-19 throughout the country, bringing the total number of infected people to 5,748,375 since the start of the pandemic.
Eight accelerated states
With the return of most of the data, the press consortium saw an increase in the average number of deaths in eight states. Not counting Minas Gerais, 13 states declined and another four, plus the Federal District, maintained stability.
The country had an average of 319 deaths per day during the last week.
Of the regions, the South showed acceleration (31%), while the Midwest (-44%) and Southeast (-45%) had a decrease. Northeast (-15%) and North (-15%) remained stable.
To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate that they use the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.
The media consortium adopted this period to check for fluctuations in the moving average. We can speak of a drop in figures when the drop is greater than 15% if it is verified in the last 14 days, in this case the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

Vehicles gather for information
In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.
The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
