Rio Grande do Sul is on high alert. With the worsening of hospitalization indicators and the spread of the coronavirus, the preliminary map of the 42nd round of Controlled Distancing, released this Friday (2/19), presented a record of black flags, which indicate a very high risk of exhaustion of hospital capacity. and accelerate the spread of the virus.

Eleven of the 21 regions were previously classified with the highest level expected in the pandemic combat system, which represents 68.4% of the state’s population, more than two thirds.

Until then, RS had only had two rounds with a black flag: in week 32 (December 15 to 21), with two regions, and the last, in round 35 (January 5 to 11), with a black flag . .

The black flag regions in this 42nd week are Canoas, Capão da Canoa, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Lajeado, Novo Hamburgo, Palmeira das Missões, Passo Fundo, Porto Alegre, Santa Cruz do Sul and Taquara. The other 10 regions were classified as red, indicating a high epidemiological risk.

See previous classification of the 42nd round at https://distanciamentocontrolado.rs.gov.br

Due to the underreporting that hospitals were already expecting during extended vacation periods such as Carnival, the Crisis Office chose to use the same hospitalization data recorded last week.

In the previous round, 1,030 hospitalizations were registered compared to 851 this week, a figure that does not coincide with the scenario of recent days. These data, added to the other updated indicators, resulted in the majority of the regions appearing on the black flag.

The exceptions were Taquara and Erechim, which, with the number of hospitalizations last week, would be classified as red flag. As there was an increase in registrations this week in these two regions, raising the scores of the regions to the black level, the government chose to use the data from this round.

In Ijuí and Santa Cruz do Sul there was also an increase in hospitalization records in the current round. Ijuí would be red in both scenarios and Santa Cruz do Sul, in black flag. Therefore, the most current data were used.

That is, in regions that showed an increase in the number of confirmed hospitalizations in the last two weeks, the current period was used. In the regions that showed a reduction in registrations due to a possible under-registration, the measurement of the previous week was repeated.

RESOURCES AND CO-MANAGEMENT

Regional associations that wish to send a request for reconsideration to the preliminary map will still have a period of 36 hours to submit the request to the government, but counting from the full disclosure of the data considered in the preliminary map, which must occur later this Friday. night (19). The final time will be announced when the information is published, along with the link to the form.

The deadline ended on Sunday (2/21), the information will be published on the state government news portal with the amount of resources received. Applications will be reviewed by the Crisis Office and the final map will also be posted on the news portal at 4:30 pm on Monday (2/22). The new flags will be valid from February 23 to March 1.

If the above classification is maintained, the black flag regions that joined the regional co-management system can adopt their own compatible protocols up to the red flag restriction level, provided that they have foreseen this in their plans. The same is the case with regions in red in co-management, which can go down to the orange level.

Of the 21 Covid regions, 19 joined the shared system. The only two regions that are not part of the co-management and, therefore, must follow the protocols determined by the State are Guaíba and Santa María.
