With Ramírez preferred, Palmeiras managers prioritize the search for a foreign coach | palms

There is a force behind the scenes at Palmeiras for the new team manager to be a foreigner. It is in this sense that the name of the Spanish Miguel Ángel Ramírez is now evaluated as the ideal to take on the club’s project. But it is not the only possibility.

Last Friday, the coach of Independiente Del Valle, from Ecuador, gave a press conference and avoided being questioned about Palmeiras’ interest.

Behind the scenes, Verdão returned this week to seek information on the situation of Ramírez, who was also targeted in January. People close to the technician affirm that the Palmeirense directive has been having conversations with the Spanish.

In Independiente Del Valle, however, the behind-the-scenes speech is that it has not yet been reported: Ramírez’s contract with the Ecuadorian club runs until December 2021.

In recent years, Palmeiras did not have a defined commander profile. He bet on young people like Eduardo Baptista and Roger Machado and also had the experienced Oswaldo de Oliveira, Marcelo Oliveira, Cuca, Felipão, Mano Menezes and Vanderlei Luxemburg.

Even a foreigner has passed through the club: Argentine Ricardo Gareca, who is currently in the Peruvian team, was hired in 2014, when Maurício Galiotte was vice president.

The initial preference for someone from outside Brazil does not rule out the hiring of a local coach to succeed Vanderlei Luxembourg. Guto Ferreira is a name that is part of the list of several evaluated by Palmeirenses. But the priority is to try to hire Ramírez and, negatively, move on to other South American options.

There was also speculation with the Argentines Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Gabriel Heinze and the Uruguayan Gustavo Munua. Munua, former coach of Nacional de Montevideo, said he was not loved by the people of Palma.
