The mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil (PSD), spoke in the Marília de Dirceu square, in front of his house, in the Lourdes neighborhood, in the Central-South region of Belo Horizonte, after the Regional Electoral Tribunal (TRE ) announced the final result of the elections. According to TRE, Kalil was re-elected with 784,307 votes, with 100% of the votes counted.

The mayor began by thanking voters for going to the polls despite the pandemic and said that, now re-elected, he will be able to think about the economy of the city.

“We have measures for trade and we are studying them. Since I was re-elected, I can start doing it now. We have to understand that this is the time for trade ”.

The mayor also affirmed that Belo Horizonte is in a “comfortable” situation in the pandemic, but that preventive measures must continue.

“There is no plan to close the city. Obviously, if there is a devastating wave in BH, I will take whatever action I have to. ”

Regarding the delay in announcing the result, the mayor joked that “being used to suffering 90 minutes with Atlético, but three hours is new.”

He also greeted the candidates who ran in the elections, saying that “the focus is on uniting the city.”

Alexandre Kalil was elected in 2016 with 52.98% of the votes. This year he contested the election with 14 other candidates and led all the polls that projected the mayor’s victory in the first round.
