With Covid squirting in the squad, Santos tries to postpone the match against Inter | Saints

Santos requested the postponement of the match against Inter, scheduled for Saturday, at 4:30 p.m., in Vila Belmiro, due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the squad. Ten players contracted the virus, in addition to coach Cuca and assistant Cuquinha, who had been running the club in the absence of his brother.

The information was confirmed by the sports superintendent, Felipe Ximenes, in a virtual press conference called by the club this Wednesday morning.

– We made the request (to postpone the game), but we still have no response – said the manager, who showed little confidence in the success of the order.

– All club presidents signed, prior to the resumption of football, a minimum number of athletes to enter the field. So it was in Palmeiras x Flamengo, for example. We believe that postponement is highly unlikely – Felipe Ximenes amended.

Pollution at the airport?

Felipe Ximenes was asked if the Covid outbreak could be related to a crowd of support at the airport before the match against Ceará, for the Copa do Brasil. Many fans were without a mask and had close contact with the players.

– These kinds of situations, lessons about the future, are dangerous. The past is even more complicated. The contact there was brief, fast, difficult to put a situation like this. Controlling a crowd that wants to demonstrate is not much we can think about in the future. The São Paulo fans made a great show now for the game against Flamengo. We traveled by plane with more than 100 people, we do not know the contacts.

The head of Santos’ medical department, Ricardo Galotti, was also present at the interview. He explained the protocols adopted by the club.

– Santos developed a protocol based on the FPF and the CBF Medical Committee. This protocol was presented to the Ministry of Health of Santos and approved. Our CT was visited by sanitary surveillance. All preventive measures have been approved. We have had two cases since the resumption of the Paulista Championship. In the last week the team was affected by an outbreak, with an increase in cases. Viruses are common, they are present everywhere. We can become contaminated in a restaurant, supermarket … Santos performed a new test on all CT employees to have job security, with full recovery.

– The protocol will be maintained. People who enter the TC are examined. Nobody enters without a test and a mask. Let’s redouble our attention, let’s be more rigid. But our protocol is well done and will continue to be strictly followed – Galotti continued.

The doctor also spoke about the players’ isolation period, pointing to the match against LDU, on the 24th of this month, valid for the start of the Libertadores round of 16.

– The protocol in CBF is 10 days away. After 10 days, you can play freely. And each country has different legislation. In Uruguay and Chile, athletes with a positive PCR cannot enter. In Ecuador, we asked Conmebol to prove that the athletes served 10 days in isolation and without symptoms, and they released us to enter the game. What will be done? After 10 days, the athletes undergo new cardiological and blood tests. If they can, they will go back to training. And they can do very well in Quito.

Not to mention the embezzlement due to the coronavirus (all already isolated and under the care of the medical department), Santos will not have Soteldo, the absolute owner, available against Inter either. The forward meets the Venezuelan national team for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

Other casualties, these for an indefinite time, are those of Carlos Sánchez, Raniel, Renyer and Vladimir, all recovering from an operation.

Ângelo, recently promoted by Cuca, is in training with the Brazilian under-17 team until Friday, the eve of the match against Inter.
