Bahia took a very important step in the fight to stay in Serie A by beating Fortaleza 4-0 at Arena Castelão, tonight (13). Winning away from home again after more than three months (15 games), Tricolor de Aço beat Leão do Pici with three goals from midfielder Rodriguinho and one from striker Rossi.
With the result, Bahía rises to position 15 and goes to 41 points, getting four points from Vasco, which opens Z4, in position 17. Fortaleza now occupies position 16, with the same number of points as Steel Tricolor. Depending on the results of Vasco and Goiás, tomorrow (21), both Leão do Pici and Bahia can guarantee their permanence in Serie A at the end of the round.
Cruzmaltino’s situation has become very complicated. In addition to needing to win the two games they have left, against Corinthians and Goiás, the club needs that Bahía or Fortaleza do not win on the last day. If they lose tomorrow (21), at Neo Química Arena, Vanderlei Luxembourg’s team will be relegated.
Who got it right: Rodriguinho
Often questioned since his arrival in Bahia, the midfielder had a memorable night, worthy of the performances he had in Corinthians’ 2017 national title campaign. In addition to leading the creation of his sector, he suffered a penalty and scored three goals, helping Bahia take a big step in the fight to stay in Serie A.
Who was wrong: Felipe
In addition to having missed the mark on occasions, the midfielder was sent off for committing the penalty that made it impossible for Fortaleza to react in the game.
Bahia takes the first chance and then closes
Unlike their last four games, Bahia opened the scoring at Arena Castelão. Oozing efficiency, Dado Cavalcanti’s team scored the first opportunity they created in the match, six minutes after, in a cross from Nino Paraíba to Rodriguinho, who headed in the counterpoint of Felipe Alves.
From the goal, Fortaleza naturally had more ball possession and Bahia betting on counterattacks. Despite being busy and with a high temperature, the game did not have great emotions until the break.
Bahia’s offensive quality results in a win
The script of the first half is almost repeated after the break. With less possession, Bahía was able to make the transition between sectors quickly and, counting on the cadence and vision of the game of an inspired Rodriguinho, almost increased the score with a low cross shot from Ronaldo.
This time, however, the counterattack was swift. Two minutes after the opportunity created by Bahia, midfielder Felipe scored with Wellington Paulista and had his strong shot stopped by goalkeeper Douglas.
A few minutes later, again based on the counterattack, Bahia increased the score in a play almost identical to that of the first goal, in another cross by Nino Paraíba converted by Rodriguinho.
“Reidriguinho” expands and Rossi closes the account
At 20 minutes into the last stage, midfielder Felipe pulled Rossi by the shirt inside the area and referee Luiz Flávio de Oliveira scored a penalty. Rodriguinho charged and made his third in the match.
Returning the penalty suffered by his teammate, Rodriguinho was knocked down 14 minutes after scoring his hat-trick and gave the ball to Rossi, who gave the final numbers to the scoreboard.
