There were 707 deaths on average in the last seven days, which represents a stability of -9% compared to 14 days ago. It is already the twelfth consecutive day stable, although it is a stability that remains high.

On Thursday (30), the country registered the highest number of deaths in just one day since August (1,224), consolidating the increase in the death curve that has been showing since mid-November. Last week, there were three consecutive days of deaths of more than a thousand.

22,489 positive diagnoses for the new coronavirus were confirmed from yesterday to today throughout the country. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,754,560 people have been infected.

It is worth mentioning, however, that death records on weekends and holidays tend to be repressed due to the reduction of personnel in the health departments. As a result, data is entered in subsequent days, especially Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Health data

The Ministry of Health, for its part, registered 543 new deaths in the last 24 hours, which brings the number of people who died in the country to 196,561 from the disease in the federal government’s accounts.

With the addition of 20,006 new confirmed infections, the number of people infected in the country is 7,753,752 since the start of the pandemic. According to the folder, 6,875,230 people recovered from the disease and another 681,961 are under follow-up.

Among the states, seven registered an acceleration in the variation of 14 days, while four presented a decrease. Fifteen more the Federal District remains stable.

Three regions of the country also have stable deaths: the Midwest (-5%), the Northeast (-7%) and the Southeast (-10%). Only the North (48%) showed acceleration, while the South continued to fall (-19%).

Experts indicate the calculation of the moving average.

To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate using the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.

The media consortium adopted this period to verify fluctuations in the moving average. It is possible to speak of a fall in the figures when the decrease is greater than 15% if it is observed in the last 14 days, in this case, the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, the media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
