The entry of a large and strong cold air mass of polar origin will cause a significant drop in temperature and even frost in southern Brazil at the end of this winter.
According to the analyzes projected in the atmospheric simulations carried out on supercomputers, a large cold front will advance off the coast of the South Region on September 19. However, this system will not be able to cause very large volumes of rain.

On the other hand, the intense polar air mass that accompanies this cold front will lower temperatures in the three southern states of the country, and the sensation will be very cold, especially between the 19th, 20th and 21st. Spring officially begins on September 22, at 10:31 am (Brasilia time).
With the intense cold temperatures below 5ºC should be observed in various areas, which can already cause frost events. Check below where this should occur, based on the weather model projections.
Cold air in other regions
The polar air mass that will enter the South Region may also leave the lowest temperatures over areas of the Southeast and even the Midwest, which have suffered from the intense heat.
In São Paulo, the most intense cold will be felt mainly in the eastern part of the state, which includes the capital and the coast. However, temperatures will also be milder in the central areas of São Paulo, in Rio de Janeiro and in the extreme south of Minas Gerais.
In the Midwest, the only area to get relief from the heat is southern Mato Grosso do Sul. Still, there is no chance of frost here.
