The youngest two-time champion matched an achievement that had only happened once in their history. Flamengo was the Brazilian champion in 1982, beating Grêmio in the final, and he validated his achievement a year later by beating Santos 3-0 in a Maracana packed with fans.

Many decades later, with the Brasileirão contested in a career points format, Rubro-Negro gave no one a chance in 2019. In 2020 it wavered and went through difficulties in a season marked by the Covid-19 pandemic scenario. However, showing his strength, Flamengo reached the lead only in the penultimate round, after beating the then international leader, and confirmed the victory over São Paulo, amid Morumbi.

Vice-champion in this Brasileirão 2020 (it ended only in 2021), Inter also consecutively reigned our lands: he was Brazilian champion in 1975 and 1976.
