President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday 10 raised the tone of his speech against the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, whom he referred to – without mentioning him – as a “candidate for head of state.”
“We recently saw a great candidate for head of state say that if he does not put out the fire in the Amazon, he will raise a trade barrier against Brazil. Diplomacy alone is not enough. When you run out of saliva, you have to have gunpowder. Otherwise, it doesn’t work, ”said Bolsonaro, who has not yet recognized Biden’s victory over Donald Trump.

During the US election campaign, Biden declared that he would mobilize the United States and other countries in an effort to help Brazil fight the fires in the Amazon.
“Only now would I organize myself, in the hemisphere and in the world, to allocate 20 billion dollars to the Amazon, so that Brazil no longer burns the Amazon,” said the Democrat in a debate held in March.
In September, Biden returned to the topic in another debate. “The tropical forests of Brazil are being destroyed. That forest absorbs more carbon than the United States emits. I’ll make sure several countries come together and say, ‘Here’s $ 20 billion. Stop destroying the forest. If it doesn’t stop, it will face significant economic consequences, ”he said.
