According to Google Trends, a platform that monitors trends and searches on the web, the interest in “What is WhatsApp 2” had a sudden increase in the last week. However, searches on the subject had already peaked in July and September of last year.

The game, although old, became very popular between Sunday (21) and this Monday (22), and caught the attention of Twitter users. Some of them have revived other past memes, such as WhatsApp Premium, which would supposedly block messages to contacts who did not update the application to WhatsApp 2.

Other users even speculated that WhatsApp 2 was a modified WhatsApp APK, similar to WhatsApp GB and WhatsApp Plus, for example. There were also those who compared the meme to the WhatsApp Gold scam, which became quite famous and even made victims in 2016 with the promise of releasing exclusive features in the messenger for anyone who clicked on suspicious links.

The youtuber Felipe Neto made fun of the chain and listed some functions that he wanted to see in the messenger. By coincidence, the much-requested audio accelerator is being tested by WhatsApp at the moment, according to reports published by the specialized website WABetaInfo last week.

Additionally, a bug from last year temporarily removed the “online” status from all users. WhatsApp also tracks messages that are routed with a magnifying glass icon to search the content on Google and verify its veracity.

Meme Raises Security Issues

The prank, although harmless, can draw users’ attention to WhatsApp mods. These unofficial modifications often offer features that are not present in the original application, such as the ability to view deleted media and simultaneous access to more than one account on the same cell phone, for example. However, these “cloned” versions of WhatsApp can offer a number of risks for the cell phone, as they are not available in the Google and Apple stores.

Also, to download them, you need to disable a device security setting and allow downloads from unknown sources. In this sense, it is not possible to verify the security and guarantee the authenticity of these servers. It should be remembered that WhatsApp does not allow the use of other versions of the application, and users who do not comply with the rule can have their messenger account permanently banned.
