What changes with the autonomy of the Central Bank, one step away from being sanctioned

[ad_1]

The Central Bank of Brazil is about to finally become autonomous, as are those of the United States, the European Union and those of so many other powers. Approved with 339 votes in the Chamber, now only the sanction of President Jair Bolsonaro remains. But it is clear that a high-impact bill like this did not pass through Congress without noise. Opposition deputies and senators criticized the moment in which the text was voted – at the height of the pandemic – and the autonomy of the Central Bank, which according to many has the potential to widen inequalities in the country.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Monalisa Perrone talks about what really changes or not with the autonomy of the Central Bank, and what are the main arguments for and against the measure. The economist Pedro Rossi, a professor at Unicamp, talks about the image of the Central Bank of Brazil abroad and why this autonomy took so long to be implemented in the country. In the second part of the episode, the economic analyst of CNN Raquel Landim comments on the prioritization of this agenda by Congress at a critical time in the pandemic.
