We want the return of the printed vote from 2022, says Bolsonaro | Politics

President Jair Bolsonaro said, on Thursday night (5), that he will defend a proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) that would restore the printed vote in Brazil in the 2022 presidential elections. According to him, the PEC belongs to Ms. Bia Kicis (PSL-DF).

“We want to change the electoral system from 2022 with the return of the printed vote,” Bolsonaro said in his weekly live on Facebook.

Together with the Secretary of Fisheries, Jorge Seif, he said that Brazil should target other countries that have a “safe electoral system.”

He did not cite the US elections, where the ballot is printed, and the dispute between President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden could lead to legalization, largely because of paper votes sent by mail.

Bolsonaro was elected in 2018 in the second round, due to the electronic ballot box system, used for many years in Brazil. He contested the results, saying he was sure he had enough votes to win in the first round. So far he has not provided evidence of his suspicions.

Federalize Fernando de Noronha

Bolsonaro also claimed that he suggested federalizing the island of Fernando de Noronha, which currently belongs to the state of Pernambuco. “I suggested that we federalize Fernando de Noronha. There he became an island of friends of the king. And the king is not me,” he said.

The president complained about an access fee charged to visitors to the site. “It is absurd that you go to a beach in Fernando de Noronha and pay R $ 100. […] That has to change, hey, “he said.

According to the Pernambuco government website, a daily “conservation fee” of R $ 75.93 is charged to stay on the island.

“We will try, if possible, to federalize Fernando de Noronha. To really make a tourist center. I heard that you cannot stop a ship there,” the president said. “It could be a place to find foreign resources for Brazil from tourism.”

Bolsonaro also asked that mayors “not invent new confinements” after the elections, referring to a possible worsening of the covid-19 pandemic, which has been slowing down in recent weeks in the country.

The president cited job recovery data in recent months. “We have been positive since July. So the economy is reacting. We ask God to return to normal,” Bolsonaro said. “That they do not invent from next year, after the elections, that they do not invent new confinements, new confinements.”

Accompanied by the Secretary of Fisheries, Jorge Seif, he questioned the assistant: “If you were mayor and were elected, would you decree closure in January?” “Nothing. Full open, everyone working,” Seif replied. Bolsonaro again questioned: “And vaccines by force, are they favorable or contrary?” To which Seif replied, “Of course not.”
