The fire of an apartment in Praia do Canto mobilizes the rescue
A fire reached the third floor of the Pintor Fanzeres Building, located on Avenida Rio Branco, in Praia do Canto, in Vitória. Videos made by A Gazeta readers on Monday night (19) show the flames and the strong plume of smoke rising from the side of the building. The Fire Department was activated around 8 pm and remained in place until after 11:30 pm. A 4-year-old boy died after being rescued. The death was confirmed by the Fire Department around 11:40 p.m., more than two hours after she was removed from the apartment.
According to information from the Fire Department at the scene, two children, the nanny, the grandmother, the father and the mother were rescued from the fire. In a note sent at 10:35 pm, the Fire Department reported that a child, in serious condition, and two adults were rescued at the scene. “The team of experts has been called in. So far, there is no information on the causes,” according to the Fire Department.
Neighbors in the neighborhood helped fight the fire. At 9 pm, the flames at the scene were under control.
A neighbor of the burning apartment said residents yelled “fire, fire, fire” but initially thought it was a joke.
A resident of a neighboring building said the fire started around 8 p.m. “I was watching TV and I started to hear a scream. When I opened the curtain in my room, I saw the fireball and the smoke. I was very desperate,” she said.
According to her, a woman screamed for help and said she was with two children. “They have already been rescued, but the firefighters have a hose on the balcony of a neighboring building, trying to put out all the fire,” he said. “I have no idea what caused it. It was very strong.”
Military police cordoned off the area in front of the building. The Vitória City Council reported that the Municipal Guard was in place to support the Fire Department. The building was closed and will be evaluated by the Vitória Civil Defense team on Tuesday (20).
