A flash in the sky caught the attention of the inhabitants of several cities in Bahia, late in the afternoon of this Monday (23). The situation was recorded and published on social networks. [Veja registos no vídeo acima]
According to Marcelo Zurita, president of the Paraibana Astronomy Association (APA) and member of the Brazilian Meteor Observation Network (Bramon), the flash is the fuel column of one of the stages of the “Gran Marcha 5” rocket.
The glare can be seen in Salvador, in Piraí do Norte, which is located in the lower south of the state, and Itapitanga, in the south of Bahia, for example. In addition, the glare can also be seen in other parts of the Northeast, such as Ceará and Piauí.
Also according to Marcelo, the rocket was launched by China on Monday to collect rock samples from the moon.
According to the New York Times, the mission is the latest stage of the space program that China hopes to culminate in an international lunar research station and eventually a human colony on the Moon around 2030.
