Senator Major Olímpio (PSL-SP), 58, was announced brain death on Thursday afternoon (18), due to Covid-19. He was admitted to the ICU of the São Camilo Hospital, in São Paulo.

The family published the following message on the senator’s networks: “With much pain, we reported the brain death of the great father, brother and friend, Senator Mayor Olimpio. By law, the family will have to wait 12 hours to confirm the death and is verifying which organs will be donated. Thank you for everything you did for us, for our Brazil ”.

The senator had been intubated for the first time last Saturday (6) until Tuesday (9), when he showed improvement. However, last Wednesday (10), Mayor Olímpio worsened again and had to return to the procedure. He was intubated again in the ICU of the São Camilo hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The contamination occurred during a “pilgrimage” of mayors to the National Congress to seek more resources for amendments. The congressman’s press officer is also hospitalized in serious condition and with 80% of his lungs compromised.

Alessandro Vieira (SE), Citizenship leader in the Senate, and Senator Lasier Martins (Pode-RS) were also infected at the event.
