Vasco finally won his first classic of the season. Tonight, Cruzmaltino beat Botafogo 3-2 at the Nilton Santos stadium and ended the drought against rivals in 2020. Ribamar, Cano and Ygor Catatau scored for the São Januário team. Matheus Babi, twice, with a discount for the Glorious.
The match was marked by chances from both sides from start to finish. In the last minutes, Fernando Miguel made a miraculous defense and prevented equality in the confrontation. Vasco also had a goal well annulled by the video referee.
With the result, Vasco occupies the fourth position, with 17 points, just three behind the international leader. Botafogo, with nine, finished the round in 17th place, in the relegation zone.

Fernando Miguel to Babi at the end
If Vasco got the victory tonight, it was a lot because of a miracle from Fernando Miguel in the 42nd minute of the second half. The goalkeeper made a great defense at point blank range when he finished off Babi. Before that, he counted on luck and saw Botafogo’s jersey 9 shot stop on the board.
Matheus Babi, although he failed in the play that could have defined equality, did well and scored both of the team’s goals. Man of reference in the attack, he was very upset during the match.
Vasco scores after a strange mistake
In a first half of good chances for both sides, it was a shameful mistake by Botafogo’s defense that allowed Vasco to open the scoring. Vasco ended the bitter losing streak in the classic season. It was Cruz-Maltino’s first win in five games against opponents in 2020; before, he had lost to Fluminense (twice), Flamengo and Botafogo himself.
Botafogo, on the other hand, reached the sixth consecutive classic without a win. The team won only in the first of the year, against Vasco.
Botafogo falls to Z4
The fifth consecutive game without a victory in the Brazilian was expensive for Botafogo. With nine points and just one win, the team ends matchday 10 in the relegation zone. Autuori’s team has not won in the competition since matchday four, when they beat Atlético-MG 2-1.
