After eight years, Vasco and Fluminense once again close a round together in the G4 of the Brazilian Championship. Tricolor (4th) joined Cruzmaltino (3rd) in the qualifying zone for the Libertadores after beating their rivals 2-1 on Saturday (29th).
The last time that the two teams were simultaneously among the four best placed in the Brasileirão was in 2012, in round 29; that year, Flu became the Brazilian champion for the fourth time, while Vasco finished the dispute in fifth place. Since then, the rivals would not share the G4 again until this weekend.
Already in 2012, round 29 had a 2-0 victory against Fluminense against Bahía, with goals from Bruno and Rafael Sóbis. The team led by Abel Braga still had Diego Cavalieri, Deco and Fred (author of the winning goal this Saturday).
Vasco was defeated 2-0 by São Paulo on that occasion. The São Januário team had Fernando Prass, Juninho Pernambucano and Alecsandro. The coach was Marcelo Oliveira.
It is worth remembering that, in 2011, Vasco and Fluminense finished the Brasileirão together in the G4, in second and third place, respectively. Cruzmaltino reached the final round with a title shot, but Corinthians won the title.
Now, to remain among the first classified, the teams will return to the field next Wednesday (2). The flu welcomes Atlético-GO in Maracanã, while Vasco visits Santos in Vila Belmiro. The games will be valid for the seventh round of the competition.
