Argentina was nothing more than a 1-1 draw against Paraguay at La Bombonera tonight in Buenos Aires. Messi scored the return goal, but VAR saw a foul early in the play and annulled the goal. Despite the result, Argentina leads the South American Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup with 7 points, but lost 100% of the success after three rounds.

Paraguay took the lead in the 21st minute with a penalty goal from former Corinthians forward Ángel Romero. Argentina reached the tie in the first stage with Nicolás González in the 40th minute.

In the next round, Argentina will face Peru at the National Stadium, in Lima, on Tuesday (17). Paraguay hosts Bolivia at Defensores del Chaco on the same day.

At 33, Romero almost made his second in the game. He hit a free kick from Almirón towards the goal and Armani sent it out.

Argentina continued to press for a turning point. Di María received in the right half and shot from long distance, the ball went close to Antony Silva’s left crossbar.

The game was balanced until Miguel Almirón ran towards the goal, but was knocked down inside the area. In the collection, Ángel Romero hit the left corner and opened the scoring.

The Paraguayan forward was also irresponsible for taking Exequiel Palacios out of the game by hitting a knee on the Argentine’s back. Palacios left the field feeling a lot of back pain after a play very similar to that of the Colombian Zúñiga in Neymar at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Argentina went on to pressure the Paraguayans and reached a tie with Nicolás González. Lo Celso took a corner from the left and Nicolás González went free at the entrance of the small area to equalize.

The second half started with many fouls on both sides. Paraguay fails to score a second goal with Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gómez. Romero took a free kick from the right into the area, Martínez Quarta deflected and the ball hit Otamendi before Gustavo Gómez stayed to finish. Paraguay still asked Otamendi for a hand, but Brazilian referee Raphael Claus did not score.

At 12 minutes into the second half, Messi received from Lo Celso inside the area and turned the game around. But the video referee called the Brazilian referee to analyze a foul at the start of the play. Claus went to VAR and annulled Messi’s goal.

Paraguay continued to defend and almost suffered the setback after the absence of Gustavo Gómez in Lo Celso. Messi took the free kick into the corner and Antony Silva managed to deflect the ball, which still hit the crossbar before leaving.

The last opportunity came 45 minutes into the second half. Messi was fouled very close to the Paraguayan area. The ace went to collect but hit the barrier, in the rest, he finished hard and the ball exploded again in defense.
