The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said that the report of Provisional Measure (MP) 1003/20, which deals with Brazil’s adhesion to the global alliance for the equality of the covid vaccine -19, will not include the consent form required by the government to vaccinate the population.
The rapporteur for the parliamentarian is Deputy Geninho Zuliani (DEM-SP), from the same party as Rodrigo Maia.
“The rapporteur is not going to include this setback in the MP. That he includes it by amendment of the government, not by a party that holds the presidency of the Chamber. The government that tries to win in plenary,” said Maia.
Maia wants to vote for the deputy this Thursday (17). The proposal authorizes Brazil’s adhesion to the global alliance coordinated by the WHO (World Health Organization), which brings together governments and manufacturers to guarantee the development of a vaccine against covid-19 and equal access to it.
The mayor also described as “regrettable” the statement of President Jair Bolsonaro (without party), who said he would not be vaccinated. For Maia, Bolsonaro should command the country and not enter the ideological fight for the vaccine.
“While he fights over the issue, thousands of Brazilians are infected and hundreds lose their lives. He is dealing with such a serious issue in such an irresponsible way, but I have faith that he understands his role and manages not to wage an ideological war and respond to wishes of Brazilian society ”, he criticized.
Maia also defended the extraordinary convocation of Congress, in January, to vote on important issues for the country, although it is focused on the issue of vaccination. For Maia, it would be wise to leave a window open to advance this debate.
“Vaccination has generated great concern in society, perhaps it would be a good idea to leave the agenda open and advance this debate in any emergency related to the vaccine,” he said.
