Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello said that by the end of January, some priority groups should start receiving the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine and that mass vaccination should begin in February. Pazuello gave an interview to the program Brazil on the agenda, gives TV Brazil, which will air on Sunday (27), at 7:30 pm.
“It will vaccinate all Brazilians equally, proportionally to the number of people per state and for free. Trust the SUS structure [Sistema Único de Saúde]Trust that there are people here who are really working day and night so that the vaccine is distributed as quickly as possible and to all Brazilians, ”said the minister.
Pazuello also stated that the vaccine will be voluntary and free. To date, no vaccine against covid-19 has been approved for use in the country by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the country has a contract “with four to five laboratories”, with three vaccines in the last study phase in Brazil: Astrazeneca, Pfizer and Janssen. According to Pazuello, the government is working so that the country has a vaccine registered as soon as possible.
According to the National Immunization Plan, specific groups will be vaccinated in the first phases, such as health workers, the elderly, people with comorbidities, security professionals, indigenous people and quilombolas, for example. Pazuello’s expectation is that the vaccination reaches the other audiences of the population about four months after the vaccination of the priority groups.
“There are four major priority groups and, after these priority groups, which we see 30 days for each priority group, we begin to vaccinate the population within the age groups,” Pazzuelo said.
According to the minister, these 30 days would be enough to apply two doses of the vaccine.
Once approved, the vaccine will be available in the 38,000 positions throughout the country that are already part of the National Immunization Plan.
