A suspect of shooting at the car of the São Vicente mayoral candidate, Solange Freitas (PSDB) appeared at the City Police Station accompanied by a lawyer. The information was confirmed by Diario de la Costa with the Civil Police on Saturday night (14).

Police from the Homicide Sector of Police Station 3 of the Specialized Criminal Investigations Division (Deic) took the man to the Police Palace in Santos for formal questioning.

The crime

The final stretch of the first-round electoral race by the Municipality of São Vicente was marked, this Wednesday (11) by an attempted shooting homicide in which the 50-year-old candidate Solange Freitas (PSDB), the vice candidate , Gil dos Santos (PSDB), 46 years old, and three people who work in his campaign, two men and one woman. They were all inside an armored Volkswagen Tiguan, which avoided a tragic outcome: five shots from the sniper, using a revolver, missed the right front window and no one was injured.

The attempted murder occurred around 10:30 am, on a return on the Red Line (Avenida Minas Gerais), in Vila São Jorge, and was practiced by a man on a Honda PCX motorcycle. Follow-up images captured the crime and the escape of the motorcyclist, who printed at high speed, leaving the Red Line and accessing Rua São Jorge.

Solange was in the back seat, between the vice presidential candidate and a campaign contributor. In front were the two collaborators. The group had left a bakery on the Red Line and intended to move on to a campaign event at the Feira Livre in Vila São Jorge.

The five victims have already been heard by the delegate Renato Mazagão Júnior, head of the Specialized Regional Division for Criminal Investigations (Deic) and who accumulates the title of Homicide Sector of the 3rd Police Station of the division. He collected testimonies at the São Vicente Police Station.

Mazagão maintains confidentiality in the investigation so as not to damage the work.

Political crime, says Solange

Quite shaken after giving testimony at the São Vicente Police Station, Solange Freitas told reporters that for her it is a political crime. “There is no other reason than that,” he declared.

Solange chose not to name names, but says that ever since she left television to begin her career in the political process, there are people who are trying in some way to make her give up.

“They try to undermine us psychologically, making them try to give up,” said the candidate.
