The United States became the country with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths worldwide on Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University. With 18,860 deaths on US soil, the country surpassed Italy, which already has 18,849, according to the university’s balance.

The balance of victims worldwide continues to be constantly updated. Also on Saturday, figures officially released by the Italian Civil Defense indicate that the total number of deaths in the country has already reached 19,468.

Still, according to a Reuters news agency survey, deaths in the United States now exceed 19,600, which also places the country as the record number of deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The United States also leads the ranking of the countries most affected by the new coronavirus, with more than 500,000 infected, according to Johns Hopkins University. The country was the first to record more than 2,000 deaths in a 24-hour period.

On March 19, Italy topped the death toll in China, where the pandemic started in late 2019. Worldwide, the pandemic has already hosted more than 100,000 people.

In Spain, the second country with the highest number of deaths in Europe (only behind Italy), 510 deaths from the new coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Despite being high, this is the lowest number of deaths in the country in the last 19 days and the third consecutive day of decline, as reported by the Spanish Ministry of Health on Saturday (11).

The UK now accounts for 9,875 deaths in the coronavirus pandemic, the fifth largest national number in the world. This Saturday was the second day in a row that the death toll passed the 900 mark.

Brazil has 1,074 deaths confirmed by Covid-19 and 19,943 cases confirmed infection with the new coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2), according to the balance of the state health departments, obtained by G1, until 9:15 pm this Friday (10). Data from the Ministry of Health, also this Friday, point to 1,056 deaths and 19,638 confirmed cases.

The number of registered deaths in Brazil has doubled in one week.

São Paulo continues with the highest number of confirmed cases and deaths. There are 8,216 infected and 540 deaths.
