Brazilians who were denied emergency aid but lost their jobs during the new coronavirus pandemic can reapply for the R $ 600 benefit and receive government aid. The possibility was confirmed by the president of Caixa Econmica Federal, Pedro Guimares, this Thursday (05/07).

“People who were employed but lost their jobs during their lifetime [do auxlio emergencial]Until July 3, they can re-register as they are on the base date of earnings that are no longer employed.

the simplest case of people who had the disability benefit because they were employed and, when they lose their job, they will be able to receive it, “said the president of Caixa.

Pedro Guimares spoke about this possibility when questioned, at a concert held this afternoon on Caixa’s YouTube, about the reason that led 26 million Brazilians to deny the government’s registration of emergency aid. According to him, these people did not meet the criteria to grant the R $ 600, provided by Law 13,982. However, they can begin to meet these criteria if they become unemployed during the covid-19 pandemic.

The Caixa president’s speech corroborates the study by the Senate’s Independent Tax Institution (IFI), which warns about the probability that the number of eligible Brazilians in R $ 600 will once again exceed the government’s estimates due to the increase in unemployment.

According to the IFI, the number of beneficiaries of the R $ 600 is likely to increase from the current 50 million to 79.9 million people due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the income and work of the Brazilian population. The increase would force the government to increase the program’s budget by another R $ 30 billion, bringing that budget to R $ 154.4 billion.

And this increase is only equivalent to the most likely scenario, according to the IFI. The institution believes that, if the impact of the coronavirus on the labor market is greater than expected, the number of eligible people in R $ 600 may reach 112 million people, more than half of the Brazilian population, which would increase the budget. program for R $ 217 billion.
