USA There will be three events in a row at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville: in addition to 249 on May 9, the organization will make cards on May 13 and 16 at the venue.

The main changes are the entry into the main fight between Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight belt, and the heavyweight duel between Fabricio Werdum and Alexey Oleynik; both were already scheduled for May 9, a date originally scheduled for UFC 250 in São Paulo.

Other changes include the departure of Jéssica “Bate-Estaca” Andrade, who would face Rose Namajunas on April 18, and the absence of Amanda Nunes, champion of weights and feathers, who would face Felicia Spencer on May 9. Namajunas pulled out of the event after suffering two losses in the family due to the new coronavirus, and the UFC found no new opponent for Jessica. Amanda said this week that she would no longer fight in the event due to the pandemic, which limited her training to what would be her first featherweight belt defense.

According to a UFC statement released to the press, the events in Jacksonville will be held behind closed doors, with no audience, and only with “essential personnel” present. Furthermore, according to the document, “all athletes and employees must comply with a series of precautionary measures, such as participating in advanced medical examinations and temperature controls, in addition to following social distance guidelines.”

The event will be regulated by the Florida State Boxing Commission. The fight in the state was made possible by a recent decree from Governor Ron DeSantis, which included professional sports and media production among the region’s essential services. With this, sporting events can be held in Florida, as long as there is no public and respect the rules of hygiene and social distance.
