Two women died after being hit by a head of water in a waterfall in Capitólio (MG), about 300 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, this Saturday (2). A man who was part of the group is missing.
The victims are Helen Cristina and Elayla Chagas, residents of Oliveira (MG), which is about 200 kilometers from the site. They were buried on Sunday afternoon (3).
The Minas Gerais Fire Brigade is looking for Jardyan Resende, a resident of the same municipality. Some 15 people who also frequented the place were rescued, some with minor injuries.
They were in Cachoeira do Cascatinha, when they were hit by the head of water, a phenomenon caused by heavy rains in the upper part of a river. With the sudden increase in volume, they were swept away by the current.
The City Council and the Municipality of Oliveira issued notes of condolences on Sunday. “May their souls rest in peace and may God comfort their families, friends and admirers,” the city council wrote.
Mayor Cristine Lasmar decreed an official three-day duel in honor of the victims.
