The owner of one of them has covid-19, but the other lives in a home with a family where no one has been positively diagnosed, according to the New York Times.

This is not the first time that cats have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus, already detected in a domestic cat in Belgium and a female tiger at the Bronx Zoo, also in New York.

Also according to the “NY Times”, an experience in China showed that these animals are susceptible to contamination, showing mild symptoms. However, there is no evidence that they transmit the virus to humans.

In any case, the Department of Agriculture and the CDC recommend that domestic cats be kept indoors in the United States, without contact with street animals or people other than those with whom they live.

There is also a recommendation for people who have Covid-19 to avoid getting close to pets, as they can transmit the virus to other people in the same way as contaminated objects, even if they are not sick.
