Delivery of the first shipment of CoronaVac in Turkey has been delayed “1 or 2 days” due to a case of coronavirus at Beijing customs, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Sunday.
Turkey agreed to buy 50 million doses of CoronaVac, from Sinovac, and expected the first delivery of 3 million doses on Monday (28).
4.5 million doses of the vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pifzer will also be purchased, with the option of obtaining an additional 30 million doses later.
“Due to a Covid-19 alert in Beijing and a Covid-19 case at Beijing customs, mobility in that section has been temporarily suspended. For this reason, the arrival of our vaccines, which would supposedly leave after customs operations, it will be delayed for a day or two, “Koca said on Twitter.
Turkey Announces CoronaVac 91.25% Effective Against Covid
Turkey said on Thursday (24) that the CoronaVac vaccine was 91.25% effective against the new coronavirus in a preliminary analysis of the results. However, in addition to the announcement, the full study was not presented.
CoronaVac is developed by China’s Sinovac, which has an agreement with the São Paulo government. The Butantan Institute coordinates the tests in Brazil and is already working on the production of the immunizer from raw material received from China.
In a note published after Turkey’s announcement, Butantan said it “does not comment on information about Sinovac’s contracts with other countries.”
