After 33 hours, a 70-year-old man was pulled out of the rubble from a building in Izmir, Turkey, this Sunday (1st). The building collapsed during an earthquake in the Aegean Sea, last Friday (30).
Ahmet Citim was saved by rescuers and taken to hospital. Information on his health status has not yet been released.
According to Fahrettin Koca, the Turkish minister, the old man said: “I never lost hope.”
The victim was in the Bayrakli district, a former slum where old buildings are most vulnerable to earthquakes.

The death toll increases
Turkish officials said the death toll rose to 62 on Sunday. About 900 people were injured.
The magnitude 7 earthquake was felt in Turkey and Greece. In addition to the collapse of buildings, it caused flooding, due to the rise in sea level.
Rescue teams continue to search for victims. On Saturday, they managed to save a mother and three children from the rubble after nearly 18 hours.
