On Friday, experts rejected a speech by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which suggested the injection of disinfectant for the treatment of patients with Covid-19. They cautioned that the statement runs contrary to any scientific evidence and is very dangerous.
On Thursday, Trump said at a White House press conference that “internal cleaning” could be done on patients. The speech came after he was told that the coronavirus can be quickly neutralized with disinfectants.
“I saw that the disinfectant will knock you unconscious (in the coronavirus) in a minute. A minute. Maybe it’s possible, maybe not. I’m not a doctor.” – Donald Trump, President of the USA USA
Trump understood that a treatment could be implemented after the findings of the study by the United States Department of Health, which discovered that the Sars-Cov-2 virus had low resistance to the product, but also to heat, light and humidity.
“The idea of injecting yourself into the body or ingesting any kind of cleanser is irresponsible and dangerous,” Dr. Vin Gupta told NBC.
The pulmonologist and intensive care specialist emphasized that this method can be fatal. On social networks, doctors and scientists criticized the comments of the American president.
A French research center mocked Trump’s speech and emphasized that the methods suggested by the President of the United States kill the virus and patients.
“President Donald Trump wonders about the use of disinfectants and ultraviolet light to kill Sars-Cov-2 (and patients). Similarly, we suggest that self-immolation may be a useful alternative,” published the Immunopole Center in Marseille.
In a statement, the White House argued that President Trump instructs citizens to seek doctors to learn about Covid-19 treatments. The presidency also said it emphasized this position at Thursday’s press conference and that “negative headlines” are the responsibility of the media and that the president’s speeches were used “out of context.”
Impact on politicians.
“Stop broadcasting these press releases on the coronavirus. They are life threatening. And please do not take or inject disinfectant,” wrote former Obama administration ethics director Walter Shaub.
“Trump’s press conferences are a danger to public health. Boycott propaganda. Listen to the experts. And please do not drink disinfectant,” criticized Robert Reich, former Labor Secretary of Democratic President Bill Clinton.
The United States is the country with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, until 10:30 am on Friday, there were more than 869,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and at least 49,000 deaths, according to a survey by the American university Johns Hopkins.
