The current President of the United States was the first in office to meet with a head of the North Korean regime in history. The first meeting between Trump and Kim took place in 2018 in Singapore. However, after the failure in a round of meetings in Vietnam, the relationship between the two countries has stalled.

Last year, Trump and Kim met on the border between the two Koreas, but there was still little progress in negotiations on the denuclearization of the North Korean regime, which has resumed missile testing.

Earlier this week, the U.S. media and a website run by North Korean defectors said Kim Jong-un was on treatment after undergoing cardiovascular surgery. A television channel even said that the dictator had serious condition.

However, South Korea, which closely monitors the neighboring regime, and China, North Korea’s greatest ally, did not confirm the information. North Korea’s government is one of the most closed in the world, making it difficult to verify reports coming from there.

The rumors started after Kim misses grandpa’s birthday celebrationsKim Il-Sung, founder of the North Korean regime and assassinated in 1994. First, it was speculated that the absence was related to the new coronavirus pandemic: North Korea officially says it has no Covid-19 cases.
