The President of the United States, Donald Trump, held the first public campaign event this Saturday (10) since he was diagnosed with Covid-19. He spoke with supporters gathered on the South Lawn of the White House.
Trump left the hospital on Monday (5), where he was hospitalized for three days after the Covid-19 diagnosis. The illness came at a critical moment in the November 3 election campaign. Opinion polls show that Democrat Joe Biden is ahead of Trump nationally, but more closely in some of the states that may determine the outcome.
According to information from Reuters, the president has not yet received certification from the medical team that he is free from the virus, but was released to resume public commitments on Saturday.
Trump spoke of a White House balcony for about 2,000 people gathered on the lawn below. The president came out wearing a white mask, which he then removed before the speech began.
He said he feels “very good” and that the country will defeat the “Chinese virus” with powerful therapies, medicines and that a vaccine will be available “very soon”, but did not specify dates.

According to his campaign, Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in central Florida on Monday (12), a state that he must conquer to wait for a second term. On Tuesday (13), he is expected to find a following in Pennsylvania and on Wednesday (14) in Iowa.
There are still questions about whether Trump, who announced he had the virus on October 2 and spent three nights in a military hospital, is contagious.
In an appearance on Fox News Friday night, Trump said he was retested for the virus, but did not reveal the result. He also said that he stopped taking drugs to fight Covid-19.
“I feel very strong,” Trump said.
Trump and his administration face criticism for the way they handle the pandemic, including a negligent approach to wearing masks and social detachment in the White House and, in recent days, with mixed messages about the president’s health.
